The month of Muharram holds special significance for Muslims worldwide, as it is a time of grief and remembrance of Imam Hussain (AS), the beloved grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). During Muharram, people from all walks of life mourn in their own unique ways to commemorate the tragic events of Karbala. One way to express sorrow and seek spiritual connection is through reciting Durood (blessings upon the Prophet), offering Nawafil (supererogatory prayers), and engaging in abundant Tasbihat (praise and glorification of Allah).
The Significance of the Muharram Oblation
Ordinarily, we supplicate to Allah for fulfilling our worldly desires, but when it comes to the Muharram oblation, its excellence lies in offering it without any specific worldly request. This act of selflessness and devotion solely focused on Imam Hussain’s (AS) grief is highly regarded in the eyes of Allah. It reflects the depth of love and connection one has with the noblest of souls.
The Grief of Imam Hussain (AS) in the Hearts of the Prophet (PBUH)
The sorrow of Imam Hussain (AS) was not confined to this world; rather, it reached the very heart of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). A narration states that when the angel Jibreel (Gabriel) informed the Prophet about the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) in Karbala, the Prophet was seen shedding tears in sorrow. This illustrates the profound connection and love between the Prophet and his beloved grandson.
Performing the Special Oblation
Relatest Post
To perform the special oblation, you may start on the first day of Muharram or if not possible, then before the 10th of Muharram. Following the Isha prayer, recite Durood Sharif 10 times at the beginning and end. In the middle, perform two Rak’at Nawafil, intending to present them as a gift to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his family.
In each of these two Rak’at, after Surah Al-Fatiha, recite Surah Al-Ikhlas (Surah Al-Tawheed) seventy times. You may use a Tasbih for counting the repetitions. If you or anyone you know cannot recite Surah Al-Ikhlas seventy times, they may recite it fourteen times instead.
Following the Special Oblation
After completing the Nawafil, recite Surah Yaseen once and then send blessings upon Prophet Ibrahim (AS) seventy times.
Continuing the Oblation for Three Days
While it is recommended to perform this oblation for a minimum of three days, continuing it throughout the entire month of Muharram yields infinite blessings. Remember that the true essence of this act lies in dedicating oneself to the grief of Imam Hussain (AS) without any worldly desires.
Conclusion
Muharram is a sacred month of mourning and remembrance, wherein believers connect deeply with the grief of Imam Hussain (AS). The special oblation serves as a powerful means to attain the proximity, mercy, and blessings of Allah. By dedicating ourselves solely to the sorrow of Imam Hussain (AS), we open the doors to worldly success and a blessed meeting with the pure souls in the hereafter.
